Competitive Brief: Call Sheet

Researched: Atlassian · for Notion reps
Focus: AI features
Today's angle

On October 6, 2026 Atlassian and OpenAI expanded their partnership. Atlassian says OpenAI models now power reasoning across Rovo and the wider Atlassian platform, alongside the Gemini models added in April, and press coverage reports the deal brings OpenAI's GPT-6 family into Jira and Confluence. Customers can also connect ChatGPT and Codex to Jira and Confluence through Atlassian's MCP server. The deeper pieces, such as autonomous agents picking up work items and running tests, are still in design. Rovo now runs on two frontier model vendors, so the 'Atlassian is locked to one model' argument does not hold. Notion's model-choice win has to rest on buyers choosing and switching the model themselves.

Objection handling
"Notion isn't really built for developers."
Counter: Concede the history, pivot to the shipped platform. For dev-adjacent teams, Notion now runs Claude and Cursor as live agents on the same board as the rest of the company's work, not a roadmap promise.
"Atlassian says Rovo is already in 90% of enterprises and 75% of the Fortune 500. Why switch?"
Counter: Reframe from "is it installed" to "is it adopted," then point to where Notion AI gets used daily by non-engineers: the teams Rovo reaches least.
"I read that Notion AI had a data-exfiltration security hole."
Counter: Don't dodge it. Notion's vector is patched and the disclosure was handled. Atlassian has two disclosed Rovo flaws of the same kind, one still open at publication, so point to that record when a buyer raises this.
"Notion's Custom Agents used to be free and now you charge credits. What stops costs from spiking?"
Counter: Position it as controllable and visible, then note Atlassian now meters both AI chat credits and automation steps, with two separate overage bills coming. Neither vendor gives unlimited autonomous automation for free, but only one just added a second meter.
"Is Notion a stable enough vendor to bet on versus a public, $26B Atlassian?"
Counter: Don't argue raw size; argue trajectory and focus. "Well-funded, growing on AI and adding headcount while the incumbent cuts it" is a credible counter to the stability objection.
"Notion slows down on large datasets. Can it really run our data at scale?"
Counter: Set scope honestly: Notion orchestrates and surfaces the data; pair it with a dedicated system of record for massive structured datasets.
"You just shut down Notion Mail for everyone. What stops you from doing that to a workflow we depend on?"
Counter: Anchor the evaluation on the core workspace, not Mail, and offer to set the workspace up today with model choice built in, so the buyer controls the AI layer instead of depending on any single Notion feature.
